Toxicology and pharmacokinetics

Toxicology determines the extent of any side effects observed in the body. The studies aimed to evaluate the extent to which the drug substance in the drug candidate LIB-01 was expected to be safe for the user. Since virtually all chemical substances are considered to have some toxic effect if the dose was high enough, the toxicology studies also concluded what the maximum dose could be in future clinical trials.

Dicot's toxicological program consisted of studies on rodents and non-rodents, which was a requirement from the pharmaceutical authorities. Rats and dogs are the most common laboratory animals used in this type of study.

Studies on a drug candidate's toxicity are a crucial part of regulatory assessments before clinical trials and formed the basis of Dicot’s application for clinical testing in healthy volunteers in 2023.
